Learning by doing

After a week of listening to French composer Erik Satie, predecessor of minimalist and repetitive music, I had the pleasure of continuing my journey of repetitively soothing sounds with that of spring rain and once fellow Chicago dweller, now Brooklyn-based producer, Slava.  His recently released EP, Soft Control, appears on the label Software
Slava's music clearly defines its limits and works within them, thus a positive identity is established and the sounds are released:  raw sounds that become molded and softened as do nails after being filed down to an ideal level, retaining their strength yet offering the smoothness and aesthetic desired.

Simple and repetitive lyrics such as “I had” and “I’ve got feelings too” are skillfully adapted into their environment.  As the lyrics repeat themselves so will I, referencing his track from last year, "Florida" as avant-garde juke at its finest which has now progressed well beyond into the hors-garde.
