The Necessary Lightness of being

At Chicago’s ‘Cloud Gate’ sculpture, otherwise known as ‘the Bean’, visitors eyes and ears were dazzled by  local artists Luftwerk sound and video installation ‘Luminous Field’.  Multicolored squares projected on the ground invited disco dancing, reminding me of recently passed Chicago native Don Cornelius, father of Soul Train.  The music being minimal however encouraged soft steps and airy movements.   Normally ‘the Bean’ does not see much traffic on a Thursday evening, but last week the swarm of people present at ‘Luminous Field’ affirms that Chicagoans and visitors alike are in need of these plays of light and sound to ease our minds and lighten our thoughts.

  1. I have yet to witness this art piece in person, if it is still available for public display, though, I am in no rush to do so. I was immediately put off by the idea of the city spending $150,000.00 on a temporary light show. I think enough money is already being spent to manicure and keep Millenium Park running.
