“Let’s be realistic and demand the impossible”,a phrase from Dusan
Makavajev’s Sweet Movie that my mind cannot seem to let go of for some
time now and rightly so. Consequently I suggest we do just that in our
approaches to life, for example with regards to the new exhibition on the 4th
floor of the Cultural Center which began on Friday the 17th of August and will continue until February 17th, 2013. The exhibit will present a mid-career survey from local artists that form Industry of the Ordinary, Adam Brooks and Mathew Wilson. The exhibition, Industry of the Ordinary: Sic Transit Gloria Mundi will present around
80 different projects from IOTO as well as other local artists. They
appear to be a pair that demands the impossible within the ordinary as on October 26th,
they will walk through the streets of Chicago with a refrigerated case that
will contain a butter sculpture of President Obama, ending the walk at the
Cultural Center. Check out their website above for more detailed information of the works presented in this current exhibition and to learn more
about this fascinating group. Enjoy impossible realism on a daily basis.
The bookend professers of my college experience. I shall go soon!
