With sunlight, good music and movement in order to better welcome September.
Often, each new hit is in some way a revival of
something that once was. Didn’t it already happen so that now we (re) discover, learn, mix,
join, try. If a hit lived up to its name then the ideas it provided should keep happening in new forms and generations.
Silent film and the musical accompaniment that it received for example. A lost art it may seem, but alas hope is not all lost!, do
not run from the ship just yet for there’s a station along the way that’s worth
stopping at, Comfort Station that is.
Found in Logan Square, an historic building that was once a shelter for trolley riders now showcases a
variety of interesting events by local artists from the neighborhood.
One such event is the silent film series beginning this Wednesday
evening September 4th at sunset.
The films will offer visual as well as aural delights within the comfort
of the outside yard, weather permitting.
[[[SE AM RIPP ER]]] will provide
musical accompaniment to this week’s Italian pick, “Maciste in Hell”, while the
following week DJ Karl Meier will play music for “Haxan: Witchcraft through the
ages” with two more films and musicians rounding out September. Such a nice opportunity to hear some of
Chicago’s most innovative talent in a new realm as well as check out the
Comfort Station if you haven’t yet. So
let’s go back to the era of silent film hits and enjoy!
