Is making its way on February 10th, the
Lunar or Chinese New Year celebrating the year of the Snake.
First there was the traditional New Year and then the "old" new year celebrated by some from the Eastern bloc. Altogether joyous events are these beginnings and endings, regardless of
calendar or tradition, they are reasons to leave the familiar and venture into
the unusual.
This year, the Lunar New Year will be celebrated in Chinatown on Sunday, February 17th. The
parade begins at 1pm from 24th and Wentworth continuing up to Cermak. It is a feast for the eyes and
stomach. Wear a bit of red, they say it’s good luck and be aware of your desire to
purchase needlessly cute plastic toys and yummy candies.
