However hilly a holiday it may be, small and tall alike will
enjoy the energy and joy that a walk in nature brings.
Although Illinois, especially around the Chicago area is not known for its natural beauty per se, don’t despair, there are places to discover in the vicinity of
this Midwestern metropole.
One such area is the Waterfall Glen Park, a short ride southwest. Unfortunately the waterfall section
is undergoing work these days, but should reopen soon. A
nice hike although a bit odd what with the Argonne National Laboratory in the
center of the park. A natural day in this area can be enhanced by a cultural
visit, to the Hindu Temple near this park, fascinating structures and
atmosphere altogether.
A simple search leads also to Sag Valley Woods closer in to
Chicago in the suburb of Palos Hills.
Before or after your trek through these vast woods, a great stop for some Americana
at its best is the Plush Horse, ice cream and coffee shop extraordinaire. Surely further queries will
lead to many adventurous walks in other directions of the city limits. The Fox River for one sounds like it should have a
promising bike trail amongst other treasures. Hoot-Hoot-Hooray as hiker Ema likes to say!
