Rooftops on buildings

and whiskers on kittens,
university museums and warm-woolen mittens,
outdoor concerts tied with up strings,
these are a few of the free things
to be seen in this city.

DPAM (DePaul Art museum), LUMA (Loyola University Museum of Art), Columbia College’s Museum of Contemporary Photography, Gallery 400 at UIC, and the Oriental Institute at U of Chicago to name a few of the free university museum spaces.

Millenium Park and Grant Park host a variety of musical events throughout the summer.  Last Monday’s performance by Lee Ranaldo and The Dust was a pleasure for the Sonic Youth fans who turned up.  Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog opened up for Lee Ranaldo, their energy and hilarious lyrics warmed up the cold seats, how could you not laugh upon hearing lyrics such as, "I went to the restaurant but I wasn’t hungry" or another joy, "Masters of the Internet".

So, when the dog bites, when the bee stings,
When you’re feeling sad,
Simply remember all of your favorite things,
And then you won’t feel so bad.
