Seems like quite the cliché phrase,
But really a very difficult thing to do; to act or think in
a manner that one is unaccustomed to.
Trying to say yes for an entire day for example or
attempting to pay attention to your breath are quite difficult feats for most
of us. A very wise cabbie once told me: don’t try, don’t attempt, just do.
Which brings me to this month’s broach, do something
different from last month. One such
thing may be a jaunt over to Martyr’s on Lincoln Ave. to hear some live music.
Perhaps you’ve never heard of the place, or been once for pizza or live music
some odd years ago, so maybe this is the time. Two excellent events are happening within days of each
other, on Thursday July 11th, Fanfare Ciocarlia, a Romanian brass
band keeping the gypsy spirit alive and flourishing will perform and Saturday, July 13th, Dubstravaganza with the legendary dub guru Hopeton Brown, otherwise known as the Scientist will meet Ted Sirota’s Heavyweight Dub, a Chicago based dub reggae band with local electronic musician K-Rad controlling the mixing board. Be ready, for some times will be enjoyed!
Fanfare Ciocarlia will also be performing on July 12th for a free show as
part of Summer Dance down at the Spirit of Music Garden next to Grant Park. Whether you're a cat inside or outside of the proverbial box, it doesn't matter so long as you're takin' it easy.
